Two classic silver dollars take on a Semiquincentennial look as the U.S. Mint releases its 1776 ~ 2026 Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars today at noon ET.<\/p>\n

1776 ~ 2026 Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars feature dual dates, Liberty Bell \u201c250\u201d privy marks and a finish noted for polished, mirror-like design elements contrasted against frosted fields<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Both coins carry the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark, anniversary features that have helped drive stronger collector interest in earlier Semiquincentennial releases.<\/p>\n

They also continue the U.S. Mint\u2019s modern Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar series but with several key changes from earlier reverse proof offerings. This year\u2019s reverse proofs are being sold individually for the first time, instead of together in a two-coin set, and production moves to the Philadelphia Mint after prior editions were struck at the San Francisco Mint, giving each coin a “P” mint mark rather than the “S” used on earlier reverse proof issues.<\/p>\n

The Morgan and Peace designs have been collector favorites for more than a century. The Morgan silver dollar was first issued in 1878 and remained in production through 1904 before returning for a final year in 1921. The Peace silver dollar debuted later that same year, commemorating the end of World War I, and was struck through 1928 before returning for a final run from 1934 to 1935.<\/p>\n

Recognizing the enduring popularity and historical significance of these designs, the Mint reintroduced modern Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars in 2021 to mark the 100th anniversary of the transition from the Morgan dollar to the Peace dollar. Following a one-year hiatus in 2022, the program resumed in 2023 and has since become an annual fixture in the Mint\u2019s numismatic lineup, with each year\u2019s releases featuring a variety of collectible finishes.<\/p>\n

1776 ~ 2026 Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars contain 0.859 troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver per coin. Each is priced at $173, compared with last year\u2019s two-coin set, which debuted at $215. The increase can be attributed in part to significant gains in the silver market over the past year as well as a broader increase in Mint pricing throughout its store. For additional perspective, the 2024 and 2025 sets remain available from the Mint but are now $375 each.<\/p>\n

    Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar Designs<\/strong><\/p>\n

    To faithfully recreate the Morgan and Peace silver dollar designs for the modern era, the United States Mint combined historical research with advanced technology.<\/p>\n

    The obverse of the Morgan silver dollar features Liberty in profile wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with cotton blossoms and wheat, along with a crown bearing the inscription \u201cLIBERTY.\u201d Encircling the portrait are 13 stars and the inscription \u201cE PLURIBUS UNUM.\u201d Added for the Semiquincentennial are the dual date “1776 ~ 2026” and a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark.<\/p>\n

    The reverse depicts a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch, framed by a large wreath and accompanied by the inscriptions \u201cUNITED STATES OF AMERICA,\u201d \u201cIN GOD WE TRVST\u201d and \u201cONE DOLLAR.\u201d<\/p>\n

    The reverse depicts a perched eagle resting on a rock while clutching an olive branch above the word \u201cPEACE.\u201d Surrounding the design are the inscriptions \u201cUNITED STATES OF AMERICA,\u201d \u201cE PLURIBUS UNUM\u201d and \u201cONE DOLLAR.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Both showcase the Mint\u2019s reverse proof finish noted for its polished, mirror-like design elements contrasted against frosted fields.<\/p>\n

    1776 ~ 2026 Reverse Proof Morgan and Peace Dollars are available directly through\u00a0the U.S. Mint\u2019s silver dollar product page. As mentioned, each coin has a mintage limit of 250,000, and an initial household order limit of 10 per coin has been established.<\/p>\n
