Gram is the cryptocurrency formerly known as Toncoin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to founder Pavel Durov, the release represents the largest rollout of a non-custodial crypto wallet in history. The wallet will place users in direct control of their private keys, allowing them to manage their own digital assets instead of depending on a third party to hold funds.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Telegram currently provides a Wallet service that has more than 150 million registered users, but that product is separate from the messaging platform itself. By contrast, the new wallet will be integrated into every Telegram app. The company has yet to announce a precise launch date, explain how the new wallet will relate to the existing Wallet service, or disclose the full range of supported assets and technical details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Related: Bitcoin Slides as Risk-Off Sentiment Returns Amid Iran Strikes, Tech Selloff<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-how-gram-returned-to-telegram\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Gram Returned to Telegram\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The wallet launch forms part of Telegram\u2019s wider crypto strategy. In June, Toncoin was renamed Gram following a community vote, and Telegram took over as the primary steward and largest validator of The Open Network after replacing the TON Foundation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Telegram\u2019s original Gram project began in 2018 and raised US$1.7 billion (AU$2.47 billion) from investors before regulatory action by the US Securities and Exchange Commission led the company to abandon it.
