{"id":11670,"date":"2026-08-09T17:04:06","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T17:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptonews.uk.com\/?p=11670"},"modified":"2026-08-09T17:04:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T17:04:06","slug":"white-house-warns-clarity-act-will-die-sept-15-unless-7-democrats-vote-yes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptonews.uk.com\/?p=11670","title":{"rendered":"White House warns CLARITY Act will die Sept 15 unless 7 Democrats vote yes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/crypto-regulation-last-chance.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The White House is raising pressure on Senate Democrats ahead of a Sept. 15 vote on the CLARITY Act, arguing that lawmakers have already had enough time to reach a deal on crypto market structure.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 8, Patrick Witt, executive director of the Presidential Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, accused Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats of blocking the procedural vote on the bill before the August recess while seeking more time for negotiations.<\/p>\n<p>Witt said Congress has spent years working on crypto market structure legislation and that the Senate has been negotiating the CLARITY Act since last summer.<\/p>\n<p>He said:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIf they can\u2019t get there by September 15, they never will.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Republican Sen. Bernie Moreno echoed that message, framing the coming vote as a choice over whether the US maintains its lead in digital-asset innovation or cedes ground to countries such as China.<\/p>\n<p>The pressure campaign follows Senate Majority Leader John Thune\u2019s decision to file cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 3633, setting up a 2:15 p.m. vote on Sept. 15.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, the upcoming vote would not pass the CLARITY Act. Welcome aboard.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The position leaves the Sept. 15 vote less focused on whether lawmakers can reach another compromise and more on whether enough Democrats are prepared to support the one Republicans say has already been negotiated.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate Banking Committee advanced the CLARITY Act 15-9 in May after nearly a year of bipartisan talks, with two Democrats joining Republicans. Negotiations continued afterward over issues including ethics restrictions for elected officials with crypto interests and stablecoin rewards.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have sought stronger conflict-of-interest safeguards involving government officials with digital-asset businesses, an issue that has grown more contentious because of President Donald Trump\u2019s family crypto ventures.
