    Cryptolink\u2019s 96 cryptocurrency ATMs have been taken offline after AUSTRAC suspended the operator\u2019s Virtual Asset Service Provider registration for three months from Sunday 9 August.<\/p>\n

    The Australian financial intelligence agency said the suspension reflected ongoing concerns over Cryptolink\u2019s ability to comply with anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing requirements and manage transactions considered high-risk.<\/p>\n

    According to AUSTRAC, the company subsequently failed to satisfy basic reporting obligations after meeting the conditions of an earlier enforceable undertaking, including requirements relating to threshold transaction reports. Cryptolink also did not submit required reports or respond to an information request from the regulator, prompting AUSTRAC to determine that it was too high-risk to continue operating at present.<\/p>\n

    Concerns Raised Before\u00a0<\/h2>\n

    The intervention follows action taken in October 2025, when AUSTRAC accepted an enforceable undertaking after its Cryptocurrency Taskforce identified alleged contraventions involving delayed reporting of threshold transactions and shortcomings in Cryptolink\u2019s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing risk assessments.<\/p>\n

    At the same time, the regulator issued the company with an infringement notice for $56,340, which Cryptolink paid. As part of the undertaking, the operator introduced independent reviews, enhanced transaction monitoring and updated its risk assessments, according to a company statement released at the time.<\/p>\n

    Cryptolink acknowledged lapses behind delayed threshold reports but said it did not condone or support illicit use of its cryptocurrency ATMs.<\/p>\n

    AUSTRAC said it would continue monitoring the company during the suspension and maintain close scrutiny of the cryptocurrency sector, particularly businesses operating cryptocurrency ATMs.<\/p>\n
