  • Payward completed its acquisition of Bitnomial, worth up to US$550 million, on May 1, taking control of CFTC-licensed exchange, clearing and brokerage entities.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Payward has presented an outline of the structure to the CFTC, both companies declined to comment, and the report lands less than two weeks after President Donald Trump said the agency was working to bring Hyperliquid onshore.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    Hyperliquid Labs is in advanced talks with Payward, Kraken\u2019s parent company, on a structure that would let US traders buy some of the decentralised platform\u2019s perpetual futures through the regulated Bitnomial exchange.<\/p>\n

    Payward has already presented the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) with an outline of the structure, according to the Bloomberg report, and the arrangement still needs final regulatory approval.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    Bitnomial Carries the Licences<\/h2>\n

    Payward agreed on April 17 to acquire Bitnomial for up to US$550 million (AU$770 million) in cash and stock, in a deal that valued Payward\u2019s own equity at US$20 billion (AU$28 billion), and completed the purchase on May 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

    The acquisition handed Payward three CFTC-licensed entities: Bitnomial Exchange, a designated contract market, Bitnomial Clearinghouse, a derivatives clearing organisation, and Bitnomial Clearing, a registered futures commission merchant.<\/p>\n

    Arjun Sethi, co-CEO of Payward and Kraken, stated at the close: \u201cClosing this deal brings a regulated US derivatives stack to Payward, its clients and partners.\u201d<\/p>\n

    That stack is already in use. Kraken began offering CFTC-regulated perpetual futures to eligible US clients on Kraken Pro on June 15, with contracts listed on Bitnomial and cleared through NinjaTrader Clearing, which does business as Kraken Derivatives US, starting with Bitcoin, Ether and seven other assets.<\/p>\n

    Trump\u2019s Onshore Push<\/h2>\n

    President Donald Trump said at a White House meeting with crypto executives on Aug. 19, referring to CFTC Chairman Michael Selig: \u201cI understand that Mike is also working to bring Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully compliant and legal fashion. Working very hard on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Hyperliquid funnelled US$1.16 billion (AU$1.62 billion) into HYPE buybacks earlier this year and set trading records during the SpaceX IPO, and in July proposed opening its prediction-market templates to permissionless deployment.<\/p>\n

    Hyperliquid handles more than US$4 billion (AU$5.6 billion) in daily trading volume and has no central operator, a design the report described as the core obstacle to a US launch.<\/p>\n
