Collectors have only hours remaining to order the United States Mint\u2019s 2026 Freedom 250 Race Medal, with its two-week preorder window scheduled to close Friday, Sept. 4, at 3 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n

Priced at $60, the medal celebrates America\u2019s 250th anniversary and the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix held Aug. 22-23 in Washington, D.C. As CoinNews reported ahead of its Aug. 21 release, the medal also honors motorsports pioneer Roger Penske.<\/p>\n

Unlike most Mint products, the medal is produced to demand from orders placed during the preorder window, up to a maximum of 15,000. The Mint has said no additional medals will be struck after the window closes.<\/p>\n

Opening sales reached 5,105 medals. Another 3,137 were added in the latest weekly report, lifting the total to 8,242 through Aug. 30, or 54.9% of the maximum mintage.<\/p>\n

Based on the sales pace through Thursday, roughly 3,500 medals may remain available before Friday\u2019s cutoff.<\/p>\n

The medal\u2019s obverse depicts an Indy car inscribed USA alongside the U.S. Capitol, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and FREEDOM 250 around the design. The reverse features a portrait of Penske with MOTORSPORT PIONEER and ROGER PENSKE.<\/p>\n

Struck at the Philadelphia Mint with a matte finish, the clad medal matches the size, weight and composition of a U.S. half dollar. It measures 1.205 inches in diameter and has a plain edge. Each piece is encapsulated and housed in a U.S. Mint presentation box. Shipping is expected to begin Sept. 28.<\/p>\n

Orders may be placed through the U.S. Mint\u2019s product page until 3 p.m. ET Friday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
