But not just any old memecoin. Hunter Biden, the son of former US President Joe Biden, is reportedly set to release a memecoin on 9 September called \u2013 wait for it \u2013 Laptop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Initial reporting by The Wall Street Journal, later picked up by CNN, confirms that Biden will issue a coin named $LAPTOP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Biden himself also posted on X about the plans, though it wasn\u2019t immediately clear if he was serious.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-x wp-block-embed-x\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop became a major political flashpoint after he left the device at a Delaware repair shop in 2019, with the FBI taking possession months later. Biden has since addressed the controversy publicly, including writing that \u201cWhat they found was evidence of a man who suffered for a period of time from a severe addiction to crack cocaine and alcohol.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-biden-not-the-first-to-launch-political-memecoin\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biden Not the First to Launch Political Memecoin<\/h2>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has also increasingly advocated for cryptocurrency and decentralised digital currencies, calling the latter the \u201cinevitable future\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, the reported memecoin launch wouldn\u2019t be the first of its kind.
