    Hunter Biden did launch his memecoin after all. As we reported earlier this week, he had tweeted that he would but some weren\u2019t sure if it was a joke or real. It turns out he wasn\u2019t joking.<\/p>\n

    But, after launching his aptly named coin, $LAPTOP, it did what many memecoins do: it crashed. And spectacularly so. After initially shooting up to US$222.75 (AU$308.61), it then crashed by around 98%. At the time of reporting, one $LAPTOP token trades for just US$0.91 (AU$1.26).<\/p>\n

    The token is listed on exchanges including Kraken and KuCoin. The current market cap is US$318 million (AU$440 million), a far cry from the US$110 billion (AU$152 billion) it had reached earlier.<\/p>\n

    Giving Back to Supporters<\/h2>\n

    Biden framed the memecoin as a means to give back to his supporters. He wrote that \u201cthey turned a laptop into a weapon\u201d, adding that he \u201cdecided to turn it into something else\u201d.<\/p>\n

    According to Biden\u2019s Substack, subscribers who signed up before September 6, 2026 are eligible to claim free LAPTOP tokens through the official site.<\/p>\n

    The claim window lasts 30 days from launch, after which any unclaimed tokens are forfeited, while claimed tokens can be held, transferred or traded.<\/p>\n

    Biden also took aim at Trump, criticising the wave of memecoins linked to politicians. Trump and related memecoins reportedly made the Trump family over US$1 billion (AU$1.38 billion) when they launched the $TRUMP and $MELANIA memecoins in 2025.<\/p>\n

    Two percent of LAPTOP\u2019s total supply will go to traders who lost heavily betting on TRUMP. Thirty percent is earmarked for the founders, including Biden himself, though the tokens are locked for six months, meaning they can\u2019t be sold or transferred. Over the following 24 months, the tokens are then released gradually.<\/p>\n
