{"id":13194,"date":"2026-09-14T05:08:26","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T05:08:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptonews.uk.com\/?p=13194"},"modified":"2026-09-14T05:08:26","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T05:08:26","slug":"revolut-exposes-customer-data-after-fraudsters-exploit-government-email-domain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptonews.uk.com\/?p=13194","title":{"rendered":"Revolut Exposes Customer Data After Fraudsters Exploit Government Email Domain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"blockquote-block_9b207d1e847b8674d9bd59d43653c2f2\" class=\"blockquote-container\" style=\"border-color: #5100fc\">\n<div class=\"blockquote-text\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revolut said an unauthorised third party used a legitimate government agency email domain to send fraudulent requests, exposing data on a \u201cvery limited\u201d number of customers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disclosed information may have included passports and driver\u2019s licences, verification selfies, contact details, IBANs, account statements and full transaction histories, including Bitcoin activity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Revolut said its systems and customer funds were unaffected, that it blocked the fraudulent email and alerted the agency, law enforcement and regulators, but has not named the agency or said how many customers were hit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">British fintech Revolut confirmed this week that fraudsters used a legitimate government agency email domain to submit fraudulent requests for information, drawing the company into disclosing personal and financial data belonging to a limited number of its customers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRevolut recently identified a sophisticated external impersonation scam where an unauthorised third party utilised a legitimate government agency domain email to submit fraudulent requests for information\u201d, the company said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Firms like Revolut routinely field data requests from government agencies and law enforcement, and because these arrived from a genuine government domain, they cleared the checks Revolut runs on that agency\u2019s mail rather than tripping the defences that catch spoofed senders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company said it blocked the email address once it spotted the scam and alerted the agency, law enforcement and financial regulators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Read more: Visa Brings Onchain Lending to Payment Settlement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The data that may have been handed over included customers\u2019 names, dates of birth, occupations, postal and email addresses and phone numbers, copies of identity documents such as passports and driver\u2019s licences, and verification selfies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also covered financial records: IBANs, account status, account opening dates, wallet reference numbers, withdrawal records, account statements and full transaction histories.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For crypto holders, that last category included Bitcoin transaction histories, the detail that pushed the incident in front of Revolut\u2019s crypto users. Revolut said no biometric facial telemetry was involved or compromised, and that its own systems and customer funds were unaffected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The exposure came to light after ZachXBT, a blockchain investigator known for tracing crypto theft, posted a copy of the notification Revolut had sent to affected users. The gaps sit against the company\u2019s scale.
