    Anatoly Yakovenko, the CEO of Solana Labs, the company responsible for the development and maintenance of the Solana blockchain, said yesterday in an X post that Solana needs to be continuously evolving and updating to meet the needs of developers and users if it is to stay relevant.<\/p>\n

    Solana needs to never stop iterating. It shouldn\u2019t depend on any single group or individual to do so, but if it ever stops changing to fit the needs of its devs and users, it will die.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    His comments came in response to a post from Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin last week in which Buterin said, \u201cEthereum itself must pass the walkaway test.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

    Buterin explained his belief that Ethereum must get to a point where it can be self-sustaining, meaning that it could continue to function in a fully decentralised way without needing any significant code changes or development for decades on end.<\/p>\n

    Do the right thing once, based on knowledge of what is truly the right thing (and not compromise halfway fixes), and maximize Ethereum\u2019s technological and social robustness for the long term.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Ethereum and Solana are two of the most successful and well-known layer 1 smart contract platforms, but the philosophies underpinning their development and future direction are markedly different.<\/p>\n

    Updates to Solana Will Never Stop, But May Come From Outside Core Dev Teams, Says Yakovenko<\/h2>\n

    As Buterin explained in his post, Ethereum is focussed on providing a home for \u201ctrustless and trust-minimized applications, whether in finance, governance or elsewhere.\u201d The Ethereum founder said that the network must get to a place where it can \u201csupport applications that are more like tools \u2013 the hammer that once you buy it\u2019s yours \u2013 than like services that lose all functionality once the vendor loses interest in maintaining them.\u201d<\/p>\n

    According to Buterin, this vision isn\u2019t achievable if Ethereum itself \u201cdepends on ongoing updates from a vendor in order to continue being usable \u2013 even if that \u2018vendor\u2019 is the all core devs process.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

    Yakovenko disagrees with Buterin\u2019s approach, stating that \u201cto not die requires to always be useful.\u201d The way a network can continue to remain useful, in Yakovenko\u2019s view, is to constantly evolve and change to meet the needs of the time.<\/p>\n

    The primary goal of protocol changes should be to solve a dev or user problem.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    The Solana Labs CEO said that new updates and additions to Solana will never cease, although they may eventually not come from the core Solana development team.<\/p>\n
