On Saturday, Jan. 17, the United States Mint restarted sales of its collector silver products after a several-day repricing pause, a move it had signaled earlier in the week amid surging silver prices. Unlike the Mint\u2019s gold offerings, prices for its silver products are not adjusted weekly.<\/p>\n

The new prices may feel abrupt and could push some collectors to the sidelines. Viewed against silver\u2019s rise since the Mint\u2019s last adjustment, however, the increases appear more reasonable. Recent price hikes on some of the Mint\u2019s clad products offer another point of comparison \u2014 and, for many buyers, a tougher one to accept \u2014 a topic CoinNews<\/em> will explore in a later article.<\/p>\n

Like other world mints, the U.S. Mint\u2019s premiums on collector products are typically significant relative to melt value and to comparable bullion versions aimed at investors. Unusually, though, the Mint went more than a year and a half without adjusting prices for its silver products despite higher silver prices. As noted last week, it had become possible to pay more for bullion American Silver Eagles than for the collectible proof and uncirculated versions.<\/p>\n

More Than a Year and a Half Between Major Adjustments<\/strong><\/p>\n

For background, the Mint last updated prices on July 9, 2024, for most of its silver collectibles, when the LBMA Silver Price was $31.055 an ounce. By last Friday, Jan. 16, the LBMA Silver Price had climbed to $90.80 an ounce \u2014 up $59.75, or 192.4% \u2014 just before the repriced products went live.<\/p>\n

Below is a breakdown of the Mint\u2019s updated pricing for key collector products, comparing old and new prices, the dollar change, and the percentage increase.<\/p>\n

*Aside from the July 9, 2024, update, the Mint in 2025 did announce pricing for select new silver products, including the now-unavailable privy-marked military Silver Eagles on June 13, which were priced $10 higher than the standard proof editions, and its Comic Art 2.5- and 1-ounce silver medals on July 2.<\/em><\/p>\n
