{"id":7218,"date":"2026-03-05T08:09:42","date_gmt":"2026-03-05T08:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cryptonews.uk.com\/?p=7218"},"modified":"2026-03-05T08:09:42","modified_gmt":"2026-03-05T08:09:42","slug":"tether-secures-deloitte-attestation-for-us-stablecoin-project-but-not-for-usdt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cryptonews.uk.com\/?p=7218","title":{"rendered":"Tether Secures Deloitte Attestation for US Stablecoin Project \u2014 But Not for USDT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div id=\"blockquote-block_f85d86f98b8eed09a818430b908e7c1b\" class=\"blockquote-container\" style=\"border-color: #5100fc\">\n<div class=\"blockquote-text\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Tether stablecoin has finally been certified by a Big Four accounting firm \u2014 but it\u2019s for its recently-launched USA\u20ae coin, a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Anchorage Digital bank.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reserve holdings attestation was delivered by Deloitte, confirming the stablecoin has sufficient reserves for USA\u20ae, which was specifically designed to comply with GENIUS Act regulations in the US \u2014 rather than replace USDT.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions around reserve holdings of Tether\u2019s flagship stablecoin USDT \u2014 the market\u2019s largest dollar-pegged token \u2014 remain unresolved.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The reserve holdings of a Tether-developed, US dollar-backed stablecoin have been certified by a Big Four independent accounting firm \u2014 but it\u2019s not an audit of USDT\u2019s reserves that critics of Tether have long called for.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An independent accountant\u2019s report from Deloitte &amp; Touche was obtained on February 27 for the US-regulated, dollar-backed USA\u20ae stablecoin, which is created by Tether and issued by the first (and so far, only) crypto-native bank authorised to operate in America \u2014 Anchorage Digital Bank.<\/p>\n<p>The GENIUS Act-compliant USA\u20ae stablecoin was launched in January 2026 and was designed specifically to give Americans \u201ca way to spend, send, and receive money with near-instant speed,\u201d and help institutions navigate \u201ca rapidly evolving regulatory environment\u201d, the bank said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"blockquote-block_42f9c0f138a757105a11eeb87fdd9a5f\" class=\"blockquote-container variant-personal\">\n<div class=\"blockquote-text\">\n<p><em>For five years, we\u2019ve operated as a federally regulated bank, purpose-built for digital assets. USAT reflects what\u2019s possible when stablecoin issuance is done inside the U.S. banking system, under real supervision, with real accountability, at real scale.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"blockquote-attribution\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"author-image lazyload\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.cryptonews.com.au\/2026\/03\/05153846\/Nathan-McCauley-CEO-and-Co-Founder-of-Anchorage-Digital.jpg\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.cryptonews.com.au\/2026\/03\/05153846\/Nathan-McCauley-CEO-and-Co-Founder-of-Anchorage-Digital.jpg\" class=\"author-image\" data-eio=\"l\"\/>        Nathan McCauley, CEO and Co-Founder of Anchorage Digital    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Deloitte\u2019s attestation report (which is not as in-depth as an audit) confirmed that the bank\u2019s reserve holdings claims are \u201cfairly stated\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The report shows that as of January 31, Anchorage Digital Bank:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Held US$17.6 million in assets compared to US$17.5m in USA\u20ae redeemable tokens outstanding.<\/li>\n<li>Had reserve holdings comprised around US$3.6m in cash and US$13.95m in reverse purchase agreements collateralised by US Treasury securities.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It stated that reserve assets were held in \u201csegregated fiduciary trust accounts that are unencumbered and held for the benefit of USAT token holders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:Tether Backs LayerZero in Bet on Cross-Chain Stablecoin Infrastructure<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tether-stakes-its-us-claim-with-usat\">Tether Stakes Its US Claim with USAT<\/h2>\n<p>Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino described USA\u20ae as an extension of USD\u20ae \u2014 basically the US-regulated version of its global powerhouse stablecoin. The USA\u20ae logo is reminiscent of Captain America\u2019s shield and its tagline is \u2018Made in America.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"\/>\n<p>Well-regarded crypto newsletter Milk Road said Tether was \u201chedging its bets,\u201d by building a locally-compliant product while continuing to grow the offshore dominance of USDT. \u201cTether wants a seat at the table, not a fight with regulators,\u201d the outlet said.<\/p>\n<p>Tether has struggled to work with a major accounting firm to gain credibility. In April 2024, Paolo Ardoino told DLNews that the Big Four firms were afraid that working with Tether would damage their reputations, but that securing one of them was a \u201ctop priority\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to build relationships to get the audit from a Big Four firm,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related:Consumer Watchdog Flags Tether for Lack of Transparency in US Dollar Reserves Audit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tether\u2019s chequered compliance history in the US, history of dishonesty about its reserve holdings, and lack of a full, independent audit have been red flags for many years.
