More than 400 dealers buying and selling coins, exhibits from museums and private collectors, a thousand free souvenir coins, and an appearance by the newly appointed director of the United States Mint are among the attractions planned for the Central States Numismatic Society (CSNS) 87th Anniversary Convention Coin Show.<\/p>\n

The event will take place April 23-25, 2026, at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center, 1551 North Thoreau Drive, in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, Illinois. PNG Dealer Day and early bird access are scheduled for April 22.<\/p>\n

U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis to Attend<\/strong><\/p>\n

U.S. Mint Director Paul Hollis, a lifelong coin collector, is scheduled to attend on opening day. He will also deliver the featured presentation during an educational seminar held as part of the Newman Numismatic Portal Symposium.<\/p>\n

\n

“The recently sworn-in 41st United States Mint Director, Paul Hollis, will present at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 23, as part of the Newman Numismatic Portal Symposium,” said NNP Project Coordinator Leonard Augsburger.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Other symposium speakers will include Jeff Garrett, editor of A Guide Book of United States Coins<\/em>; Dr. Ute Wartenberg Kagan, executive director of the American Numismatic Society; and Lawrence Brown, former member and chair of the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee.<\/p>\n

A complete schedule of presenters will be available on the Newman Numismatic Portal Symposium website.<\/p>\n

Missouri Theme and Free Souvenir Coins<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s convention will recognize Missouri as part of a multi-year program highlighting the 13 states that make up the organization\u2019s geographic region.<\/p>\n

\n

“We\u2019ve been encouraging collectors to exhibit Missouri-related numismatic items, and two museums will also have educational displays,” said CSNS President Mitch Ernst.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Visitors will be able to receive one of 1,000 free 2017-dated Ozark National Scenic Riverways quarters while supplies last. The coins, struck at the Denver Mint, commemorate the 134 miles of rivers in southeastern Missouri and were donated by Littleton Coin Company.<\/p>\n

The giveaway will take place at the CSNS club tables (A2 and A3), with one coin distributed per visitor.<\/p>\n

“To add even more excitement to the giveaway, one lucky free coin recipient will receive a 2017 San Francisco Mint silver proof Ozark quarter,” Ernst said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Museum Exhibits and Historical Displays<\/strong><\/p>\n

Two museums will present exhibits at the show.<\/p>\n

The Higgins Museum of National Bank Notes in Okoboji, Iowa will display uncut sheets of both large-size and small-size National Bank Notes issued in Missouri.<\/p>\n

\n

“We will also exhibit a selection of type notes from the First Charter period of the 1860s through the Small Size Type 1 and Type 2 issues of the 1929-1935 period,” explained museum curator George Cuhaj.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The Durham Museum in Omaha, Nebraska will present an exhibit tied to the nation\u2019s upcoming 250th anniversary of independence. Materials will include documents and illustrations related to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, including an image of a Sept. 6, 1799 letter written and signed by Thomas Jefferson.<\/p>\n

The museum is home to the famed Byron Reed Collection.<\/p>\n

\n

“We will display copies of documents Reed collected related to the signers of the Declaration of Independence, in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing. Reed is most well-known for his coin collection, but he also collected books and manuscripts, with a keen interest in autographs. He aimed to collect signatures from all singers of the Declaration, presidents, and Civil War generals,” said Museum Collection Manager Kristen Rowley.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Semiquincentennial-Themed Tokens<\/strong><\/p>\n

Specially produced tokens will also be available during the show, while supplies last. The tokens will depict the linked rings design of the 1776 Continental Currency dollar on one side and the Gateway Arch of St. Louis on the other.<\/p>\n

The pieces symbolize both the United States\u2019 upcoming semiquincentennial and Missouri\u2019s role as the convention\u2019s theme state.<\/p>\n

Engraver Joe Paonessa of The Root River Mint in Racine, Wisconsin will strike the tokens on a rolling mill during the show.<\/p>\n

Heritage Auctions to Conduct Official Sale<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heritage Auctions will serve as the official auctioneer of the convention and will conduct sales of U.S. coins and currency as well as world and ancient coins.<\/p>\n

    Admission and Additional Information<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The Professional Numismatists Guild will host PNG Dealer Day on April 22. The dealer-only event is open to PNG and CSNS member dealers. Admission is free for PNG members and $100 for non-member dealers.<\/p>\n

    Early bird admission passes covering the afternoon of April 22 and early entry on April 23-25 will be available for $150.<\/p>\n

    General admission during public hours, April 23-25, is $15 per day or $30 for a three-day pass. CSNS members and visitors age 17 and under are admitted free. Visitors can save time and get a $5 discount by ordering their admission tickets in advance online at www.CSNS.org\/events\/87th-anniversary-convention-coin-show.<\/p>\n
