Hedge funds cut their net bearish Bitcoin futures bets nearly 15% even as the cryptocurrency tumbled toward $80,000.Data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) showed leveraged funds held a net short position equivalent to 30,611 BTC as of Oct. 13, down from 35,903 BTC a week earlier. The 5,292 BTC reduction came as Bitcoin fell nearly 3% during the reporting period, from about $85,600 on Oct. 6 to $83,100 on Oct. 13. The cryptocurrency briefly slipped below $81,000 as rising Treasury yields, weakening institutional demand, and a global technology stock selloff weighed on risk appetite. The decline gave bearish traders opportunities…

Aave’s proposed USAT gateway would require approval for every return swap, allowing access to be revoked after an institution had exchanged its deposit receipts for GHO.TokenLogic’s Oct. 15 governance proposal would introduce a permissioned GHO Stability Module, or GSM, on Avalanche. It would let approved counterparties exchange waUSAT, a receipt for the dollar stablecoin USAT supplied to Aave V4, for GHO. Approval would apply in both directions, so revocation could prevent a participant from returning GHO to recover waUSAT.That creates three separate conditions on the route back to dollars: access to the return swap, the ability to withdraw underlying USAT…
Binance’s perpetual tied to SOXL, a leveraged semiconductor ETF, recorded a 5.9% opening-to-low fall in the mark price used for margin risk during the 21:00–22:00 UTC hour on Saturday, Oct. 17. All 60 sampled minute-close gaps between that mark and its reference index stayed below 3%.The two observations measure different risks. Binance’s published weekend band constrains the mark’s distance from the index at a particular moment. The index can move away from the trader’s entry price, leaving cumulative price exposure open. In the sampled hour, the index itself fell almost 4%.For a leveraged trader, that distinction leaves room for losses…
Vitalik Buterin has called for a hard ceiling on Ethereum proving costs per unit of block gas, adding a resource-accounting test to the push for faster zero-knowledge proofs. For independent prover operators, the issue is how much work the hardest permitted block could demand, even when ordinary blocks finish quickly. In his October 15 post, Buterin congratulated ZKsync’s Airbender team and set out three formal-verification priorities: matching the mathematical representation of execution to Ethereum’s specification, bounding prover cost relative to block gas, and securing the proof system itself. The cost requirement reaches beyond a speed leaderboard. Gas gives Ethereum a way to…

A Kraken-distributed USDC vault will direct part of its yield to XRP-linked collateral providers underwriting DeFi losses. On Oct. 15, Firelight announced the addition of Kraken’s Protected Strategies USDC vault, extending a coverage protocol launched earlier this month to an investment product available through the exchange’s DeFi Earn service. Sentora, the vault’s independent curator, arranged the enrollment. The deal creates a potential source of recurring income for holders willing to deploy XRP-linked capital on Flare. Fees from the vault’s returns flow to Firelight, where collateral providers share in premiums in exchange for accepting losses from eligible exploits and protocol failures. For Kraken’s depositors,…
US-listed XRP exchange-traded funds ended a 13-week inflow streak as investors withdrew nearly $576 million from four major cryptocurrency ETF categories.Data from SoSoValue showed that XRP funds recorded $1.84 million in net outflows during the week ended Oct. 16, reversing the $11.31 million inflows registered a week earlier. Key takeaways ADA futures open interest fell to $475.58 million from $549.14 million, reflecting reduced derivatives exposure. Positive funding shows a modest bullish tilt among perpetual traders, leaving longs vulnerable if prices fall further. ADA remains below key moving averages, with $0.1894 emerging as a potential downside target. Cardano Stabilizes After Sharp Weekly Decline Cardano held above $0.2200 on Monday as buyers attempted to steady the price following a roughly 12% decline last week. ADA has lost more than 10% so far in October, while weakening derivatives activity and subdued large-wallet positioning suggest limited conviction behind a recovery. The daily…
