US Mint 1776-2026 Enhanced Uncirculated Silver Eagle Launches

The U.S. Mint today at noon ET launches the 2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated American Silver Eagle, pairing a finish used only once before in the series with special design elements celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.

Previewed earlier this year, the enhanced uncirculated finish combines polished and laser-frosted surfaces to create sharp contrast and emphasize the coin’s design details. This is only the second American Silver Eagle issued with the finish, following the 2013 release, and the first to pair it with the current eagle-landing reverse introduced in 2021.

Beyond its distinctive finish, the coin commemorates the nation’s semiquincentennial with the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell privy mark bearing the numeral “250.” Combined with a limited mintage of just 125,000 coins, these special features are expected to generate strong collector demand.

Each coin is priced at $169.00 and carries an initial household order limit of 10.

For comparison, the Mint released the companion 2026-W Enhanced Uncirculated American Gold Eagle on May 28 at a substantially higher price of $5,370. Collector demand pushed the 7,500-coin mintage to unavailable status in just two minutes.

American Silver Eagle Designs and Semiquincentennial Elements

Adolph A. Weinman’s iconic Walking Liberty has appeared on the obverse, or heads side, of American Silver Eagles since the series debuted in 1986. First used on the half dollar issued from 1916 through 1947, it remains one of the nation’s most celebrated coin images. Liberty strides toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag. Her outstretched right hand symbolizes hope and opportunity, while her left arm carries laurel and oak branches representing civil and military glory. In 2021, the U.S. Mint refined the image using original historical assets to more faithfully reflect Weinman’s artistic vision.

For the 2026 Semiquincentennial edition, the obverse also carries the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark, along with the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST.

The reverse, or tails side, features Emily Damstra’s depiction of an eagle descending with an oak branch for its nest, symbolizing strength and renewal. It replaced John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle, used on American Silver Eagles from the series’ 1986 debut until partway through 2021. Surrounding inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, 1 OZ. FINE SILVER and ONE DOLLAR.

A variation in the coin’s reeded edge provides an additional security feature.
