US Mint Launches First Enhanced Uncirculated Morgan & Peace Dollars

Collectors have another opportunity to acquire two of America’s most iconic silver dollar designs, as the U.S. Mint releases the 1776 ~ 2026 Enhanced Uncirculated Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars. Priced at $169 each and available beginning today at noon ET, the coins mark the first use of an enhanced uncirculated finish in the modern series and carry special elements celebrating America’s Semiquincentennial.

The enhanced uncirculated treatment combines polished and laser-frosted surfaces to heighten contrast among design elements.

The releases continue the Mint’s modern Morgan and Peace dollar series, launched in 2021. Over the years, the coins have been issued in proof, uncirculated and reverse proof finishes, but enhanced uncirculated is new to the series. This year’s offerings began July 9 with reverse proof editions, which, like the new enhanced uncirculated coins, carry a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark and the dual date “1776 ~ 2026” for the 250th anniversary of American independence. The July 9 reverse proofs remain available, with latest reported sales of 156,552 Morgan dollars and 142,730 Peace dollars.

Mint sales reports often include figures for products shortly before their official release, reflecting advance orders through programs such as subscriptions. For the new Enhanced Uncirculated dollars, pre-release sales through Aug. 23 totaled 81,038 Morgan dollars and 75,870 Peace dollars.

Although enhanced uncirculated is new to the Morgan and Peace series, the finish itself is not new to U.S. coinage. The Mint first used the treatment on a 2013-W American Silver Eagle included in a two-coin set commemorating the 75th anniversary of the West Point facility.

More recently, the finish returned with the 2026 Enhanced Uncirculated American Gold Eagle, released May 28. Like the new Morgan and Peace dollars, the special Gold Eagle carries the 1776 ~ 2026 dual date and a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark.

The Mint followed July 21 with a 2026 Enhanced Uncirculated American Silver Eagle, also featuring the dual date and Liberty Bell “250” privy mark. Its enhanced uncirculated finish combines laser-frosted areas with an unpolished field to accentuate design details.

Struck at the West Point Mint but carrying no mint mark, the latest dollars are composed of .999 fine silver. Mintage is limited to 250,000 of each, with an initial household order limit of 10 coins per design.

Morgan and Peace Silver Dollar Designs

Few U.S. coin designs have enjoyed the lasting popularity of the Morgan and Peace dollars. Morgan dollars first entered circulation in 1878 and were struck through 1904, with production resuming for one final year in 1921. Later that year, the Peace dollar debuted as a tribute to the end of World War I. It was produced through 1928 before returning for two final years in 1934 and 1935.

Historic artifacts and research were combined with modern U.S. Mint technology to recreate the original coin designs as faithfully as possible.

Morgan dollar obverses (heads side) feature George T. Morgan’s portrait of Liberty facing left, wearing a Phrygian cap decorated with cotton blossoms and wheat and topped with a crown inscribed LIBERTY. Thirteen stars surround the portrait along with E PLURIBUS UNUM. For 2026, the design also includes the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell 250 privy mark recognizing the nation’s Semiquincentennial.

The reverse (tails side) features a heraldic eagle with outstretched wings clutching arrows and an olive branch. A large wreath frames the design, which is inscribed UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST and ONE DOLLAR.

Anthony de Francisci’s Peace dollar obverse presents Liberty in profile wearing a radiant crown, with LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRVST surrounding the portrait. The 2026 version adds the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell 250 privy mark.

On the reverse, an eagle rests on a rock while holding an olive branch above the word PEACE. The surrounding inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM and ONE DOLLAR.

1776 ~ 2026 Enhanced Uncirculated Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars are available directly through the U.S. Mint’s silver dollar product page. The initial household order limit of 10 coins per product will remain in place for the first 26 hours of sales.

A special 1776 ~ 2026 Morgan and Peace Dollar Two-Coin Set from the Philadelphia Mint is also scheduled for release this fall.
