U.S. Mint Reveals 1776-2026 $250 Trump Gold Coin

The United States Mint has unveiled images and new details for a 2026-W Proof President Donald J. Trump Gold Coin, a $250 Semiquincentennial collector issue scheduled for release Nov. 5.

Struck in one troy ounce of 24-karat, .9999 fine gold, the coin carries the 1776 ~ 2026 dual date and features 250 on the shield of the Presidential Seal reverse to mark the nation’s Semiquincentennial. Produced at the West Point Mint, it bears a W mint mark.

The gold proof follows Trump $1 coins released Sept. 2 in rolls and bags. Those circulating-quality dollars have a golden color but contain no gold, instead using a manganese-brass composition of 88.5% copper, 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese and 2% nickel. They opened with sales of 49,604 of the 50,000 bags and 148,524 of the 150,000 rolls, representing 99.2% and 99.0% of their respective product limits. The bags became unavailable in less than an hour, while the rolls lasted less than 7 1/2 hours.

It will be the Mint’s second $250-denominated coin of 2026, following the one-ounce 1776 ~ 2026 $250 Freedom Ringing Liberty Bell Gold Coin. Limited to 2,026 pieces, that issue is priced at $19,600.

Trump Gold Coin Designs

The gold coin uses the same designs as the dollar, pairing a portrait of President Trump on the obverse with the Presidential Seal on the reverse. Differences are primarily in the inscriptions tied to the gold coin’s denomination, precious-metal content and West Point production.

U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna designed the obverse portrait from an official White House photograph by Daniel Torok. It is joined by LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and the dual date 1776 ~ 2026.

The reverse uses former U.S. Mint Chief Engraver Frank Gasparro’s Presidential Seal design. The eagle’s shield bears 250 in recognition of the nation’s Semiquincentennial, while inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, 250 DOLLARS and 1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD.

The final coin also resolves details that remained unsettled earlier this year. During a March design review, the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) recommended an obverse showing Trump leaning forward with his hands on a desk and a reverse pairing an eagle with the Liberty Bell, with the eagle perched on or carrying the bell’s wooden yoke. Mint officials also discussed the possibility of producing the coin on a larger-than-standard one-ounce planchet. The finished product instead uses the same portrait and Presidential Seal designs as the Trump $1 coin and contains one ounce of gold.

Pricing and Release Details

The Mint has established a household order limit of one, though its official price, mintage limit and product limit remain unannounced. If released today under the Mint’s current numismatic gold pricing grid, the 2026-W $250 Proof President Trump Gold Coin would carry a price of $5,440, based on the $4,400.00 to $4,449.99 average gold price range.

For comparison, the Mint currently prices its one-ounce 2026-W $50 Proof American Gold Eagle at $5,300 and its one-ounce 2026-W $50 Proof American Gold Buffalo at $5,340. Gold-product pricing can change weekly based on movements in the LBMA gold-price average.
