US Mint Releases Semiquincentennial Half Dollar Rolls & Bags

The United States Mint today releases rolls and bags of 2026 Enduring Liberty half dollars, one of its major coins celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Featuring dual dates of 1776 ~ 2026 and a one-year-only design — the first for the denomination without President John F. Kennedy’s portrait since 1964 — the coins are offered in $60 two-roll sets and $180 200-coin bags. Each set includes one 20-coin roll from Philadelphia and one from Denver, while each bag contains 100 coins from each facility.

Although subscriptions for the halves had been available earlier, today marks their official release and the first opportunity to place standard orders. The Mint’s subscription program lets collectors sign up in advance to automatically receive qualifying products when they are released.

Some Enduring Liberty half dollars may also be found in circulation, as the Mint began shipping 2026 Semiquincentennial coins to Federal Reserve Banks on Jan. 5.

Enduring Liberty Half Dollar Designs

For 2026, the Kennedy portrait gives way to a new Semiquincentennial design. The obverse (heads side) features a close-up view of the Statue of Liberty, her gaze directed outward as if toward the future. The design was created by Donna Weaver and sculpted by John McGraw. Inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, IN GOD WE TRUST and the dual date 1776 ~ 2026. The obverse also carries a mint mark of P for Philadelphia or D for Denver.

The reverse (tails side) depicts Liberty passing her torch to a new generation, its flame trailing with the momentum of purpose. The design was created by Beth Zaiken and sculpted by Darla Jackson. Reverse inscriptions include E PLURIBUS UNUM, HALF DOLLAR and KNOWLEDGE IS THE ONLY GUARDIAN OF TRUE LIBERTY.

The pair of designs was selected from among 17 candidates reviewed in late 2024.

Specifications for the coin remain unchanged from previous issues and are shown below:

Beginning in 2027, the half dollar will pair a new portrait of John F. Kennedy on the obverse with rotating reverse designs honoring Paralympic sports, starting with wheelchair basketball. Designs for the 2027 issue have already been recommended.
