Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin says advances in cryptography could turn decentralization from a performance cost into a scaling advantage for the network. In a Sept. 27 essay, Buterin described Ethereum’s long-term destination as a “cryptographic world computer,” an architecture in which computation and data can increasingly be distributed across different participants while compact proofs allow others to cheaply verify that the work was performed correctly. The shift would mark a departure from the traditional blockchain model in which every node downloads transactions and repeats much of the same computation. Instead, Ethereum could push more work across a wider network of specialized participants…
Shareholders of Armada Acquisition Corp. II, the cash-holding SPAC seeking to merge with XRP treasury company Evernorth Holdings, have until 5 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 28 to request redemption of their public shares, unless the board sets a later deadline. The merger vote is scheduled for Sept. 30. Every redeemed share removes cash that Evernorth could otherwise consider for future XRP purchases after a closing. Armada’s definitive proxy sets both dates, but it does not disclose how many shareholders will redeem.Evernorth is expected to have at least 473.3 million XRP at closing, but that figure combines previously purchased tokens and…
Michael Saylor has called for a “bill of digital rights” covering the creation, ownership, transfer and use of digital assets. He wants lighter token-issuance rules, greater freedom for stablecoin issuers and banks to hold and lend against Bitcoin. Saylor criticised the CLARITY bill and backed regulators taking a leading role in shaping crypto policy over the next two years. Between increasing his Bitcoin stash, Strategy co-founder Michael Saylor has found the time to write an essay on digital asset policy and AI. In the piece posted on X over the weekend and titled “Prescriptions for Prosperity in the Digital Economy”,…
Scammers built a counterfeit version of Upbit-backed GIWA blockchain and lured 1,333 wallets into depositing 767 ETH, worth about $2 million, before draining almost all of it.The fake network appeared to be GIWA’s anticipated Ethereum Layer 2 mainnet, complete with an RPC endpoint, cross-chain bridge, and Chain ID 9134, the identifier associated with the planned launch. But GIWA’s mainnet was not live.In an X post, GIWA said claims that its production RPC had leaked were false because no mainnet RPC exists. Its documentation lists only GIWA Sepolia, which uses Chain ID 91342, while the production network remains under development.DYORSWAP, whose community…
[alloc] init researchers Clara Shikhelman, Mikhail Komarov and Aleksei Moskvin released the 56-page Shielded Bitcoin paper on 24 September. Transfers would be published on Bitcoin, while separate indexer software verifies the zero-knowledge proofs and rebuilds the private ledger. The design relies on a trusted setup and leaves deposits and withdrawals of real Bitcoin to a separate paper. Researchers at cryptography firm [alloc] init published a design for private Bitcoin transfers that would hide amounts, senders and receivers without any change to Bitcoin’s consensus rules. Clara Shikhelman, Mikhail Komarov and Aleksei Moskvin wrote the 56-page paper, titled “Shielded Bitcoin”. Shikhelman, the…

Australian senators want the heads of OpenAI and Anthropic to appear at a Senate hearing on AI. The hearing follows an incident in which an OpenAI agent bypassed security blocks and accessed Australian government websites. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese criticised OpenAI’s delay in reporting the incident, while the company said no patient records were accessed. The inquiry will examine AI regulation and the wider impacts of data centres on Australian communities, water, energy and land. Following the incident we reported on last week, OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei have been asked to appear before a Senate hearing. Prime…
The SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance issued nine crypto FAQs on 25 September, building on the interpretive release the SEC and CFTC put out on 17 March. A buyback announcement on a functional network is not a promise of managerial effort, but it could be one on a network that is not yet functional if pitched as yield or return. Staff said the answers are their own views, and the Commission has neither approved nor disapproved them. US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) staff said on Friday that a token buyback does not, on its own, turn a crypto asset…

A $202 billion U.S. Treasury coupon settlement on Sept. 30 will test overnight financing at quarter-end. The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York says the market is calm for now but warns that net new supply could lift repo borrowing rates. Whether that pressure reaches Bitcoin is a separate, unobserved question. The Treasury calendar puts a reopened 10-year inflation-protected bond and two-, five- and seven-year notes on Wednesday’s settlement date. The TIPS, two-year, five-year and seven-year announcements set public face amounts of $19 billion, $69 billion, $70 billion and $44 billion, respectively, totaling $202 billion.Treasury also estimates $143.58 billion of…
