Supergirl Movie Spotlights New U.S. Mint Coin Designs

With “Supergirl” arriving in theaters, the United States Mint is spotlighting the DC Super Hero through its upcoming 2026 gold coin and silver medals, including designs featuring Krypto the Superdog.

The movie opened June 26 in theaters and IMAX across North America, bringing renewed attention to Supergirl as the Mint prepares to add her to its Comic Art Coin and Medal Program.

Official images released by the Mint pair a dynamic, soaring Supergirl obverse with a reverse depicting Supergirl and Krypto, emphasizing the character’s themes of bravery and grace.

The 2026 Supergirl lineup includes a half-ounce 24-karat gold coin from the West Point Mint and two .999 fine silver medals from the Philadelphia Mint, one weighing 2.5 ounces and the other 1 ounce. The $50 gold coin carries a proof finish, while the silver medals feature a matte finish resembling that of an uncirculated coin.

As with previous releases in the series, the core artwork remains consistent across formats. The gold piece includes standard U.S. coin inscriptions, while the medal versions replace those with character-specific text.

2025, 2026, and 2027 Honorees

Supergirl joins Robin and Green Lantern in the Mint’s 2026 Comic Art Coin and Medal Program. The series launched in 2025 with Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, and will continue in 2027 with The Flash, Batgirl, and Aquaman.

Supergirl and Krypto Designs

Before final design selections were made by the Treasury Secretary, the U.S. Mint presented candidate designs for review by the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) and the Commission of Fine Arts (CFA).

The obverse shows a determined Supergirl soaring through the clouds, her cape billowing in the wind. The design was supported by both advisory panels and was also Warner Bros. Discovery’s preference.

The reverse features Supergirl alongside her super-dog Krypto, set against a dynamic starburst effect. On the medals, additional inscriptions include SUPERGIRL, while BRAVERY LIFTS HER and GRACE GUIDES HER emphasize the character’s defining qualities.

The CCAC recommended the design, which was also favored by Warner Bros. Discovery. The CFA declined to endorse any of the proposed reverses, citing concerns that the preferred option was too similar to the obverse.

Release, Pricing, and Availability

Specific release dates have not yet been announced, with all three Supergirl products currently listed as “Coming Soon” on the U.S. Mint website. Subscriptions are already open for the 1-ounce silver medal. The Mint’s subscription program lets collectors sign up in advance to automatically receive qualifying products when they are released.

• 1/2-ounce gold coin: Pricing TBD

For comparison, the Mint’s 2025 Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman gold coins are currently priced at $3,350 each.

Mintage limits have not been published, but are expected to mirror 2025: 10,000 for the gold coin and 25,000 for the 2.5-ounce silver medal. The 1-ounce silver medal has no mintage limit.

The Comic Art Coin and Medal Program is a multi-year collaboration between the United States Mint and Warner Bros. Discovery. The series celebrates American ideals and values through iconic DC Super Heroes, bringing bold, comic-inspired artwork to premium numismatic products.

Supergirl’s selection has added relevance this year with the character returning to the big screen. Directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, “Supergirl” also features Krypto, connecting one of the Mint designs directly with two of the movie’s central characters.
