- AI agents and robots may increasingly drive blockchain activity as autonomous systems need transaction infrastructure, says Chainlink’s McCormick

AI agents and robots could drive a growing share of blockchain activity as autonomous systems increasingly require infrastructure for communication and transactions, Chainlink Labs executive Andrew McCormick said.
McCormick, the company’s head of institutional strategy, believes the expansion of agentic AI could create new applications for crypto infrastructure, including autonomous trading systems that operate when their owners are unavailable.
He also expects tokenised markets to give these systems opportunities to trade beyond traditional market hours, potentially increasing the role of blockchains in automated financial activity.

A Future Built Across Multiple Chains
At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence could make blockchain development cheaper, allowing more networks to be created and resulting in what McCormick describes as a world containing many chains. Such an environment would make connections between networks increasingly important, particularly as tokenised assets operate across different blockchains.
McCormick highlighted Wyoming’s Frontier Token, which uses Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol, known as CCIP, to enable distribution across multiple blockchains. His outlook for blockchain activity extends into the physical world, where humanoid robots could potentially work in environments such as factories and docks while using stablecoins, digital assets and blockchains to communicate and transact.
McCormick described the development as extending the relationship between artificial intelligence and crypto beyond software-based agents and into machines capable of interacting with blockchain infrastructure.
