403-Mintage Team USA Privy Silver Eagle Heads to Auction

The first certified 2026-P TEAM USA Privy American Silver Eagle is now up for auction, one of a special group presented to U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

GreatCollections is auctioning the proof Silver Eagle without reserve, with bidding scheduled to close Sunday, Oct. 18. PCGS graded the coin Proof-70 Deep Cameo and labeled it the “First Example.” Included with the offering are its original government packaging and a Certificate of Authenticity separately encapsulated by PCGS.

Of the 403 coins struck in Philadelphia, 400 were made for the Aug. 6 White House event and three were retained as United States Heritage Assets.

Presented to Team USA Athletes

President Donald Trump hosted U.S. Winter Olympians and Paralympians at the White House following their performances at the Milano Cortina Games in Italy. Team USA won 33 medals at the Winter Olympics, including a record 12 golds, while U.S. Paralympians collected 24 medals, including 13 golds.

The special proof Silver Eagles given to athletes at the event were not offered for public sale.

Each coin carries a P mint mark on the reverse, while the TEAM USA privy appears in the right obverse field above IN GOD WE TRUST. Their certificates of authenticity bear the TEAM USA and Milano Cortina names.

Mintage Far Below Earlier Silver Eagle Keys

Dating to 1986, the American Silver Eagle series has seen low-mintage issues, but a production total of 403 places the TEAM USA issue far below earlier releases.

Among the previous keys, the 2019-S Enhanced Reverse Proof Silver Eagle has a mintage of 30,000, while the 1995-W proof has a mintage of 30,125. The latter was originally available only through the U.S. Mint’s 10th Anniversary set. Compared with those totals, the TEAM USA issue has about 1/75 the mintage.

GreatCollections President Ian Russell said the auction house learned of the issue after the consignor asked whether the coin was a regular Silver Eagle or something different.

“The consignor contacted us to ask whether the coin was a regular Silver Eagle or something special,” Russell said. “We arranged for the coin to be graded by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), where it received the perfect grade of Proof-70 DCAM.”

Different Route to the Secondary Market

GreatCollections compared the TEAM USA Silver Eagle with another recent low-mintage U.S. Mint special issue, the 2024 Flowing Hair High Relief gold coin. The Mint produced 230 examples carrying a “230” privy mark and auctioned the entire group in December 2024, realizing $8.23 million. GreatCollections has since sold several examples on the secondary market, with prices reaching $71,562.

Unlike that issue, the TEAM USA Silver Eagles were distributed individually rather than sold together or through the Mint’s regular catalog. Additional examples reaching the secondary market would therefore depend on recipients choosing to sell them.
