The Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) will hold a videoconference meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24, to review U.S. Mint candidate designs for upcoming coins honoring working dogs, youth sports, a Paralympics sport, and the nation’s Semiquincentennial, as well as designs for the Congressional Gold Medal recognizing Billie Jean King.
Established in 2003, the CCAC is a federal panel that advises the Secretary of the Treasury on themes and designs for all U.S. coins and medals.
Specifically, the meeting agenda includes a review and discussion of candidate designs for:
- the obverse and reverse of the 2027 Working Dogs Commemorative Coin Program
- the reverse of 2027 American Youth Sports quarters and the Paralympic half dollar
- the obverse and reverse of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring Billie Jean King
- a Semiquincentennial gold coin
The 2027 Working Dogs Commemorative Coin Program honors the service and sacrifice of dogs that assist the United States in military, law enforcement, search-and-rescue, and assistance roles. Authorized by Public Law No. 118-109, the Working Dog Commemorative Coin Act, the program will include $5 gold coins, silver dollars, and clad half dollars, all sold with surcharges benefiting America’s VetDogs and supporting the organization’s mission.
Public Law 116-330, the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act (CCCRA), authorizes the Mint to issue circulating quarters from 2027 through 2030 highlighting sports played by American youth, with up to five different sports featured each year. The law also permits an annually redesigned half dollar bearing imagery emblematic of a single Paralympic sport.
The Congressional Gold Medal for Billie Jean King recognizes the tennis champion’s achievements both on and off the court, honoring her contributions to sports and public service. Authorized by Public Law No. 118-88, the Billie Jean King Congressional Gold Medal Act, the medal commemorates King’s record-setting career and her advocacy for equal pay and opportunity in athletics. The law also authorizes the Mint to produce bronze duplicates of the medal for sale to the public.
