Bitget detected unauthorized wallet transfers about 30 minutes before attackers began draining hundreds of millions of dollars from the crypto exchange, raising questions about why its security response failed to contain the breach. The exchange said its systems flagged unauthorized transfers at 18:31 UTC on Sept. 24 and that its security team immediately activated emergency protocols. However, blockchain security firm Hypernative’s reconstruction of the attack shows that most losses came later: $87.6 million left hot wallets at 19:01, and another $202.8 million left warm wallets at 19:16.Those two bursts, completed in a combined 24 seconds, accounted for about three-quarters of the $387.5…

Digital asset service providers face a separate limit on listing new official-linked coins for California residents. The enrolled bill makes an official’s role central to both provisions. Its listing clause covers a coin offered by or in partnership with a federal public official or a state or local public officer, provided the coin was issued on or after Jan. 1, 2027. The January 1 date is a threshold for which…

Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin says advances in cryptography could turn decentralization from a performance cost into a scaling advantage for the network. In a Sept. 27 essay, Buterin described Ethereum’s long-term destination as a “cryptographic world computer,” an architecture in which computation and data can increasingly be distributed across different participants while compact proofs allow others to cheaply verify that the work was performed correctly. The shift would mark a departure from the traditional blockchain model in which every node downloads transactions and repeats much of the same computation. Instead, Ethereum could push more work across a wider network of specialized participants…
Shareholders of Armada Acquisition Corp. II, the cash-holding SPAC seeking to merge with XRP treasury company Evernorth Holdings, have until 5 p.m. Eastern on Sept. 28 to request redemption of their public shares, unless the board sets a later deadline. Scammers built a counterfeit version of Upbit-backed GIWA blockchain and lured 1,333 wallets into depositing 767 ETH, worth about $2 million, before draining almost all of it.The fake network appeared to be GIWA’s anticipated Ethereum Layer 2 mainnet, complete with an RPC endpoint, cross-chain bridge, and Chain ID 9134, the identifier associated with the planned launch. But GIWA’s mainnet was not live.In an X post, GIWA said claims that its production RPC had leaked were false because no mainnet RPC exists. Its documentation lists only GIWA Sepolia, which uses Chain ID 91342, while the production network remains under development.DYORSWAP, whose community…
