The United States Mint’s Best of the Mint 1916 Mercury Dime Gold Coin and Silver Medal Set is available again, returning at a lower price after being listed as “Currently Unavailable” for much of the period following its June 4 release.

Originally offered for $810, the set is now priced at $780 under the Mint’s weekly precious-metals pricing schedule. Its return gives collectors another opportunity to purchase the first release in the five-product Best of the Mint series honoring America’s 250th anniversary.

The set opened with sales of 28,933, representing 96.4% of its 30,000-set limit. Most were claimed within the first hour, although sales remained open for nearly five hours before the Mint changed its status to “Currently Unavailable.”

Sales have since declined for three consecutive weeks. After reductions of 650 and 50 in the two previous reports, the latest total fell by another 643 to 27,590. That represents 92.0% of the product limit and places cumulative sales 1,343 sets below the opening figure.

The set pairs a one-tenth-ounce, 24-karat gold coin recreating Adolph A. Weinman’s classic Mercury dime with a newly designed one-ounce silver medal. The gold coin carries a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark commemorating the nation’s Semiquincentennial. See CoinNews photos of the set.

Weinman’s original obverse depicts Liberty wearing a winged cap symbolizing freedom of thought. The reverse features a fasces representing strength through unity, accompanied by a battle axe and olive branch symbolizing military readiness and a desire for peace. The West Point-struck coin carries the original 1916 date and a “W” mint mark.

The Philadelphia-struck silver medal presents a continuous panoramic scene across both sides, reflecting the period from 1916 to 1945. Its imagery includes Liberty in defensive and offensive poses, rays symbolizing hope after conflict, Hooverville shacks representing the Great Depression and swirling waves referring to the Dust Bowl.

The Mercury dime set is the first of five Best of the Mint releases planned for 2026. It is scheduled to be followed by sets featuring the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter, 1916 Walking Liberty half dollar, 1804 silver dollar and 1907 Saint-Gaudens High Relief $20 gold coin.

Orders may be placed through the U.S. Mint’s website.
