Team USA Privy Silver Eagles Presented to U.S. Olympians

U.S. athletes from the 2026 Winter Olympics received an unusual numismatic keepsake at the White House this week: 2026 American Silver Eagles carrying an exclusive “TEAM USA” privy mark.

U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach revealed the coins in a social media post, saying President Donald Trump honored Team USA’s Olympians with the coins in recognition of their achievements. Beach described them as a tribute to the athletes and to the craftsmanship of the United States Mint.

The coins were presented during an Aug. 6 White House reception honoring American athletes who competed earlier this year at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Team USA Silver Eagle Details and 2026 Issues

Few production details have been disclosed. Beach identified the pieces as American Eagle silver coins featuring a TEAM USA privy mark, but his announcement did not provide a production total, finish, striking facility or mint mark.

American Silver Eagles contain one troy ounce of .999 fine silver. Their obverse carries Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design, first introduced on the half dollar in 1916, while the reverse features Emily Damstra’s design of an eagle approaching a landing with an oak branch in its talons.

The standard 2026 American Silver Eagle bullion coin, produced for investors, carries the single date 2026 and no mint mark or privy mark. Through July, the Mint reported sales of 9,245,500 coins. Unlike its collector coins, the Mint does not sell bullion Silver Eagles directly to the public. Instead, they are distributed through a network of authorized purchasers and are widely available from coin and precious-metals dealers.

Collector versions, by contrast, are sold directly through the U.S. Mint’s website, subject to availability.

To mark the nation’s 250th anniversary, the Mint’s collector Silver Eagles include proof and enhanced uncirculated versions bearing the dual date 1776 ~ 2026 and a Liberty Bell “250” privy mark. Both are struck at the West Point Mint and carry its “W” mint mark. The proof edition, released Feb. 26, remains available, with latest sales of 422,187 against a mintage limit of 500,000. The enhanced uncirculated version followed on July 21 and became unavailable in about 3 minutes, with sales of 122,719 from a stated mintage cap of 125,000.

An exception among the collector issues is the low-mintage Silver Eagle included in the Mint’s 2026 Congratulations Set, also released Feb. 26. That proof was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, carries its “P” mint mark and features the standard 2026 date without a privy mark. Production was limited to 60,000 coins, and the set has long been unavailable from the Mint. The Mint most recently reported sales at 59,949.

The newly revealed Team USA coins add another distinct 2026 Silver Eagle issue, featuring a privy mark tied directly to the U.S. Olympic team.

Beach did not disclose whether additional examples were produced beyond those presented to the athletes or whether any could eventually become available to collectors.
