Senate Confirms Paul Hollis as 41st U.S. Mint Director

The U.S. Senate has confirmed Paul Hollis as the 41st Director of the United States Mint, approving his nomination Thursday, Dec. 18. He will serve a five-year term.

President Trump nominated Hollis in July. He appeared before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs on Oct. 30, outlining his qualifications and vision for the Mint.

Hollis was confirmed by a recorded Senate vote that largely followed party lines, after the chamber approved a procedural resolution to expedite consideration of multiple executive branch nominations. The vote followed several months without a permanent Mint director.

A longtime numismatist and rare-coin dealer, Hollis brings decades of industry experience to the role, along with public-sector service as a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives. His appointment places a collector in charge of the nation’s coin-producing bureau.

Hollis succeeds Ventris C. Gibson, who resigned earlier this year, and will oversee the Mint’s circulating coinage, bullion programs, and collector offerings as it prepares for major initiatives tied to America’s upcoming 250th anniversary.
