U.S. Mint Repricing Also Raises Clad Collector Coin Prices

The United States Mint raised prices on its clad products — proof sets, mint sets, and rolls and bags of circulating-quality quarters and dollars — at roughly the same time it repriced its silver offerings earlier this month. Price increases for silver products were widely expected, with silver setting repeated price records, yet more than a year and a half had passed since the Mint last adjusted those products.

CoinNews photo shows 2026 Mayflower Compact quarters, one of five unique quarter designs celebrating the nation’s Semiquincentennial. U.S. Mint rolls and bags of quarters are among products seeing higher prices this year.

After silver climbed 192.4% per ounce during that period, revised pricing appeared comparatively reasonable, with increases ranging from 33.3% to 85.7%. Comparable increases for some clad products, however, are harder to understand.

Sets, Rolls, and Bags See Increases Ranging From 25% to More Than 270%

Clad coinage is composed primarily of copper — accounting for 91.7% of dimes and quarters and 75% of nickels, for example. Copper prices have also climbed, advancing about 41.7% in 2025 alone, though that figure reflects the metal’s price per pound. Clad product price increases ranged from 25.1% to 274.4%, clearly exceeding — especially at the higher end — what higher metal costs alone would suggest. Of course, the Mint must also contend with other rising material and labor costs.

This year’s coins carry added appeal for many collectors, with nearly all featuring unique elements or one-year-only designs marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.

In past years, upcoming clad and silver collector product prices were pre-announced through the Federal Register, the federal government’s official daily journal. Pricing for 2025 clad products, for example, appeared there on Dec. 23, 2024. So far this year, no comparable advance notice has been published, though expected silver product changes were signaled.

Below is a breakdown of updated pricing for key collector products, comparing previous and current prices along with dollar and percentage increases.

    Proof Set $40.25 $107.00 $66.75 165.8%

For years, U.S. Mint gold, platinum, and palladium collector coins were repriced weekly based on market conditions. Recently, amid sharp precious-metals volatility, the Mint has instead paused or temporarily pulled products while conducting repricing reviews.
