The Royal Canadian Mint (mint.ca) has released a new $1 circulation coin celebrating FIFA World Cup 2026, marking Canada’s role as a tournament co-host and the first time men’s World Cup matches will be played in the country.

Unveiled May 14 at BC Place in Vancouver, the commemorative dollar is being issued in both colorized and uncolored versions. FIFA World Cup 2026 will be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Toronto and Vancouver will host Canada’s portion of the tournament, with 13 matches scheduled between June 11 and July 19, 2026. Canada’s Men’s National Team has qualified, giving fans their first chance to watch the team play World Cup matches on home soil.
“The FIFA World Cup 2026 is a landmark moment for our nation, and this $1 circulation coin captures the pride and unity that come with welcoming the world to our communities,” said François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Finance and National Revenue.
Designed by Canadian artist Glen Green, the reverse features the upper portion of the FIFA26 CAN maple leaf mosaic. On colorized coins, the design uses shades of orange and red to suggest fans coming together.

The reverse also includes the official FIFA World Cup 2026 emblem, a soccer ball in motion, and the inscriptions “TORONTO” and “VANCOUVER” to recognize the Canadian host cities. Additional inscriptions read “FIFA WORLD CUP 26” and “COUPE DU MONDE DE LA FIFA 26.” The obverse carries the effigy of King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
“The Royal Canadian Mint is proud of the many great Canadian sporting moments it has captured on coins through the years, and we are delighted to celebrate a new milestone with a circulation coin commemorating the first-ever FIFA World Cup men’s tournament matches to be played in Canada,” said Simon Kamel, Interim President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint.
Mintage is limited to 3 million coins, including 2 million colorized pieces. The coins began entering circulation May 14 as banks and businesses replenish $1 coin inventories.
“Today we add a new chapter to our national story, as the FIFA World Cup 2026 is officially minted into Canadian history,” said Vittorio Montagliani, FIFA Vice President and Concacaf President, during the May 14 unveiling.
Collector products tied to the circulation coin are also available, including a five-coin set with both versions of the dollar plus three themed 25-cent coins, special wrap rolls of 25 coins in colorized and uncolored formats, and a box set.
The new circulation coin and related products are available through the Royal Canadian Mint (mint.ca/soccer), its boutiques, dealers, distributors and participating Canada Post locations. Earlier this year, the Mint introduced a broader FIFA World Cup 2026 collector coin program in precious metals.
